Re: Simple question about calybars
clay can not remove oxidation only surface contaminates

Re: Simple question about claybars
I've clayed many clear and non-clear coated cars and have never seen paint transfer only dirt ...
..besides..the lubricant whether it be soap or QD would never let you work that far into a finish

Re: Simple question about claybars
So the claim of their clay bars removing oxidation is bogus,Here is a cut & paste from Autopia:
''Detailing clay is the paint care secret of the Pros! That's because detailing clay can quickly and easily remove most forms of paint contamination with very little effort. Use detailing clay to rub away insects, tar, stubborn road grime, exhaust soot, oxidation, surface rust, paint overspray, " |

Re: Simple question about claybars
Surface rust is better treated with Poorboy's ProPolish or equivalent.
Oxidization comes off relatively easy with polish. Keeping it away is tough. I've had a 4 week return on a $200 polish job before.

Re: Simple question about claybars
usually not..clay only removes surface contaminates not imperfections in the finish ...

Re: Simple question about claybars
You can take some WS of the surface with clay but as Steve stated generally not...for what you are looking to do, a good chemical polish, or paint cleaner...would be the choice...however if they are etched in the clear, then some wet sanding might be in order
