I`ve sold my business! (the PEI Detail --> Brenton thread)

It looks like I`ve sold my business!

Some of you knew I was trying to sell it. Some of the story is here:

Well, we`ve signed papers and are moving toward a Feb 1st takeover. The young guy taking it over seems really cool. He`s a car guy, and I`ll have him introduce himself sometime next month. He`s also kind of a business prodigy--he was a GM at a hotel by age 20 or something like that.

So I think it is not just good news for my selling of the business, but good news that someone capable is taking it over, someone who will honour my work, my philosophy of high customer service, and who will grow the business in ways that I cannot. I`m thrilled.

The price was lower than I want, but if I have good work this year, we hope to begin the international adoption process soon. I may have to spend 4 months up north or out west to get the $$ for the adoption, but we are in good shape overall if this all works out. I am teaching full-time this spring, and working a little for the new owner doing training. We`ll still need another $20k for the adoption, but that will come I hope.

Thank you everyone for all the support. DC has helped me build this business and take it to new levels. You`ve taught me new techniques, but also held me accountable to the "Detailer`s Code"--that nebulous, self-inflicted call to give customers and cars the best treatment possible!

I am keeping a DW849, some pads, products and waxes for my work and my family`s work. I`ll also be helping the new guy on the technical stuff. Hopefully I can stay sharp.

I`ll post news as it comes. I`ll also post how I sold the business in the "pro" section once I`m done, in case anyone needs some tips for buying or selling a business in the future.

I have read most if not all the posts that you have entered on the DC forum, Brenton. I enjoyed your views and philosophy on life as well as detailing. Reading of your struggles with the business and of your family plans for an additional family member makes you more real and personal in my eyes.

So the deal went ahead.
The new guy was in last Thursday afternoon--we were actually cleaned up and out a few hours early! We walked away Thursday afternoon.
Then his staff didn`t come in Friday morning, so my wife was in working Friday morning; the afternoon, I was in, but we were working for the man!

We had a lovely weekend. Went to an historic inn and had a great time. Had a car accident--was backing in to a spot and a young guy thought he could get around quicker than I could pull in. I`ve got a Jimmy, so it cracked the plastic foot grip on the bumper--just a small crack, but broken for sure. Scraped the metal bumper to the paint, and scratched the plastic bumper on the passenger side--stress fractures, so not buffable. Too bad.
But I demolished his 06` Corolla bumper. His damage will be $1500; mine I can do myself for $325-$400 I think. We`ll see what insurance says, but it was damper.

Great weekend overall though!
