The Price You Pay For Technology?

For all those that ran out and stood in endless lines cash in hand to own a new Mac iPhone.....now are being offered a refund by Mac.

Having worked in the R&D technology field for some years I call foul on Mac's part. For those that wanted or want the latest and greatest technology have to be willing to pay for it.

What Mac is doing is saving themselves business and I get that, but in the face of every electronic device that I have ever brought when it was released. I am sending my recite back to them for a partial refund.

So do you feel that Mac was right or wrong for what they did?

Re: The Price You Pay For Technology?

All I can say is that I saw it coming. Personally I don't think they should offer any kind of refund at all. We all know that prices drop right after the hype wears off when it comes to technology. The computer I paid $1800 for a few years ago is selling for $500 now. It's just the way it works. I've got a couple co-workers with the iPhone and they are happy to get their $100 back on it, but they have no regrets in buying it when they did. I do have to say that I'm getting a lot of satisfaction knowing that I was probably right when I joked with them to just wait and see... In nine months it will be free with activation.

Re: The Price You Pay For Technology?

I think that the people that brought iPhones should feel lucky that Mac even decided to refund anything.

Everyone knew the price would drop...but cut in half in less than 6 months of the release is unheard of...especially when its still as popular as it is.

Mac is feeling the pressure of other phones coming into the the market that have similar features and cheaper.

They can also afford the refund to ensure the business.

Also they are giving store credit of a 100 bucks....what do you think your going to do with 100 bucks but pad that with more cash for something else

Re: The Price You Pay For Technology?

The one who should be bent is AT&T. Apple may be the one dishing out the discounts, but the perception will still be that AT&T gouged the buyer from the getgo. People didn't necessarily buy their phones from Apple. They bought them from AT&T. I sure wouldn't want to be working in the customer service department for either company right now. Actually... I wouldn't want to work in that department for either of those two companies since the iPhone was released. It has been a nightmare for them with the activation issues and now this.

Well anytime you have that much hype on a product launch you are going to have a huge backlash...look at the PS2 and xBox...would hate to have been customer service for those as well....I just felt that it was in bad taste for Apple to reduce the price as much as they did...either that or they where figuring that they could pickup new customers at the reduced rate, that would off set that amount with refunds

Re: The Price You Pay For Technology?

Offering those rebates sounds like a bonehead idea to me, you, and the stock market too their stock dropped 7% because of these rebates.
