respraying clearcoat

I've got an SS Camaro that was created for GM by a company called SLP. Part of the SS package was a different rear spoiler that was painted by SLP and not GM.

The spoiler, when viewed at a very low angle is now looking pitted after removing some swirlmarks and scratches. This could be due to the poor paint jobs that SLP are known for. The clear has always been very soft and hard to keep swirl free. The rest of the paint is easy to maintain but the spoiler is very easily marked.

Would it be best to have the clear wet sanded and then resprayed to get a deep shine?

Hi HarryP,

You could try to "wet sand" the pits first. Be sure to soak your 1500, or 2000 wet sandpaper in a soapy (a capful of car wash in a gallon of water) overnight first, so you get the "softest" sandpaper. Then use a buffer with a nice light polish to see how it looks.

Good luck, Tom

I guess I would tend to agree. Although I have never wetsanded the worst you could do is mess up and have to have it repainted anyway. So you can try your luck and see if that works. If not get it repainted.
