Automatic carwash ?

I was wondering if the automatic carwash's that are brushless and nothing touches the paint except for the spray of water is bad for your paint? It looks to me that it would be the best solution since no brushes or anything is touching your paint and there is a blowdry at the end so you dont have to dry it off. Just wondering what you guys think

Re: Automatic carwash ?

Car washes have to use pretty abrasive products to get grime off your car on touchless washes. They would most likely strip off your wax or sealant that you have on your car. Bottom line I highly dont reccomend it. You shoudl just stick to the 2 bucket method for a high quality wash.

Re: Automatic carwash ?

We had one at bartow ford for service washes, rentals, etc. It was called the auto butler. It was fully automated and had 3 turbine blowers at the end that if you stood under them while they were going it would push you to the ground. With them being that strong it didn't even get all the water off.

So i would say there ok for a quick wash, i don't see them hurting your paint maybe striping all your wax, polish, etc if used on a regular basis. anyways it can't beat a hand wash.

Re: Automatic carwash ?

they won't neccesarily strip off all u're protection but they will greatly minimize it. i used them about twice and followed up with some S&W on my brothers truck which was filthy at the time and wanted to do him a favor and clean it up. (didnt have time to really give it a full clean up, but it helped)

Re: Automatic carwash ?

I use to send my Avalanche through them after I went out playing in the dirt. I never noticed any negatives rom them excpet them taking some wax off. I still prefer to wash my own vehicles by hand, but in a pinch I think they are OK.

Re: Automatic carwash ?

Just remember it is damn near impossible to eliminate bias when it comes down to doing a study like this.

http://texas-on-line.com/hacienda/research.htm

I am in agreement with joyriide1113 in his statement.

I have used them in North Carolina and though they did remove most all of the road film it did leave a film/ residue behind, requiring a Quick Detail or a Spray and Shine after words to get the finish back to a brilliant shine.

Re: Automatic carwash ?

It may be impossible to elimnate bias, but it's not impossible to eliminate bad technique. They were obviously using dawn when they washed their cars. With no lubricity and no common sense you'll quickly swirl the crap out of you finish. Oh well.
