Silver Clearcoat Care Question
I'm new here but have learned a ton about finish care already but am not able to figure out this last step - hope I can benefit from your experience.
Got a new Chrysler with silver clearcoat paint. Been washed every week I've had it. As far as I can tell, the finish has no swirl marks. So what would you recommend I do to the finish to maintain it beyond washing it? I know this is a broad question but it has been a while since I had a new car and products have changed a lot. I'm not sure if I should clay it once to begin with, then polish then wax or glaze or what. My goal is durability over depth of gloss - I cannot wax every weekend, so I'd be willing to sacrifice a show-quality depth of finish to get a durable protective coat that would require less frequent maintenance. If I can get low maintenance with depth, then that's a plus. If this kind of thing has been beated to death before, if you could point me to the relavent thread I'd appreciate it. Thanks, RP |

You will most likely want to clay the car even thought it is new as you say. If durability is an issue then what I would do for silver (which mine is a silver metallic) I would do the initial wash, clay, for the clay lubricant I make my own 50/50 distilled water and adams car wash, after the clay I would apply either Klasse AIO by hand with a microfiber applicator pad, then a couple coats of EX-P. Wash weakly to maintain and add another coat monthly. I have on my car right now AIO and UPP x 2. UPP is a lot slicker than EX-P IMHO and it brings out the flake alot. If you have flake and want to bring that out I would go with UPP. The AIO + EX-P x 2 combo gave it alot more depth and wettness but I also added 2 coats of Natty's using the spit shinning method. Just my 2 cents. HTH's
