Oxidation

Sorry for asking so many questions guys!

I searched a bit for this one, but couldn't really find an exact answer. I'm trying to remove some pretty heavy oxidation from a 93 rx7. I don't have any AIO (wish I did) or any Pro Polish. I do have PwC, ssr2.5, 2, 1, and some DACP. I started just trying a little 2.5 on a cutting pad w/ the pc on an area last night. I only went over it twice, but it looked a lot better. Should I keep with the ssr2.5 or use one of my other products first? I've read that pro polish would do a good job to start with, but all I have is Pwc. Also, is it normal to have red paint from the car on my pad? Does the oxidation cause this?

I'm assuming you have single stage paint on your RX... because of the oxidation and the paint in the pad... yes that's normal.

If the paint was oxidized I would have used a good paint cleaner first... locally you can pick up Meguiar's Deep Crystal paint cleaner. Anyhow, if there are no swirls, I would try the SSR1. If there are still some swirls I would try some SSR2... or make another pass with the SSR2.5.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't used ssr2.5 on anything other than the one headlight yet. Would the PwC work as far as a cleaner polish? I can probably get the Meg's stuff. I think the only Meg's stuff I have is #6 Cleaner Wax and the DACP.

Well, to be honest, any of those products will probably remove the oxidation. However, again, I would use a good chemical paint cleaner... by hand. It will save the pads from getting a bunch of "crap" in them and allow the polishes to do their job better.

Don't get hung up on all the number and products...

Clean the paint with a good paint cleaner.

If you have significant swirls... use a moderately abrasive polish to remove/reduce them.
Follow the moderately abrasive polish with a lighter polish to finish off the swirls/hazing.

If the swirls are extremely light... use only the light polish after the paint cleaning.

Add your protective coating.
