Question First Wax On A New Car

How soon do you wax a new Car... I keep it clean all the time. I keep the bugs off almost daily. My husband says 6 mos, but I think it's sooner.

Re: First Wax On A New Car

My short answer is... as soon as you sign the papers for ownership.

Protection is the first step in caring for your vehicle.

Re: First Wax On A New Car

kinda depends... what are your expectations, is this a show car or a daily driver, does it park in the garage or is it outside all day, is it covered, what color is it, how's the weather in your area -- hot, cold, rainy, sunny, humid, how many miles does it see daily, does it run through a carwash or do you wash it yourself, are you doing the waxing, or your husband, is he paying for someone else to do it or are you... the list of variables is infinate. It would be safe to answer that it should be waxed as needed, or as often as you see fit. If it is strictly a wax, the longest it will last in most conditions will be 60-90 days max. Sealants can last longer, glazes can last less. I guess what I am saying is that vehicles should be waxed as often as necessary to maintain the results you crave.

Sounds like you are asking when will the new paint be ready for a wax or sealant.

Since new cars have the paint baked in a heated booth it should be clayed polished and waxed the day that you take delivery.

Your husband would be correct if it was a repaint at a body shop but 6 months is much longer than necessary.

Hope that helps.

Re: First Wax On A New Car

I beleive Black Bart is correct. My process would be very god hand wash, clay bar with lube, polish for light correction, followed by a paint sealant. And week later a carnuba wax after the sealant has taken hold on the properly prepared surface. I would combin the polish and sealant into one product such as Polish with Sealant from POORBOYS WORLD, I REALLY LIKE THAT PRODUCT!!!!!!

Re: First Wax On A New Car

I'm with Randal and Bart on this one. There is nothing to wait for. As has been mentioned some paints/processes of days gone by required you to wait for the paint to out gas. In effect cure. This isn't the case any longer and is true even of most repaints done in body shops. In fact many body shops now use heat booths to "bake" the paint. The paint is ready for a coat of protection in very short order.

Re: First Wax On A New Car

I think it depends on situations like, how is the weather of ur city. You covered your car or not during parking, what is the color of it. and many more.
