EX: Machine or Hand?

Ive been considering how to apply EX when I get around to it. I wonder if I would achieve better results by using the PB PVC applicators, or to use something along the lines of a grey finishing lines.

That's exactly what they're made for. If you read in the previous thread on the PVC's they're super soft and they apply an ultra thin super even coat of sealant. Front to back on horizontal surfaces. Up and down on vertical surfaces.

They seemed like that, but Id dint know how it compared to the ability of the grey finishing pad on a PC. I dont have experience using either applicators/pads yet.

Actually Dan it's not a bad question....I have had many people tell me they can really get great coverage with a pc using the EX....as a first coat....when you use any machine friction is caused and if you were layering then it would work into the previous layer and might even remove it....but with the pvc sponge...you can easily lay down another layer and not disturb the previous one...maybe just a tiny bit upon removal.

See if you can follow my ideas here.

1. Apply 1st coat with grey finishing pad with a speed of roughly 1 1/2 - 2 on the PC
2. Let sit for an hour
3. Buff off with microfiber bonnet with roughly same speed
4. Wait 30 minutes
5. Inspect entire car for any excess and remove with MF
6. Apply second coat of EX with PVC applicator
7. Let sit for an hour
8. Buff off by hand with Viper finishing MF
9. Final QD+ of entire car

Im thinking that procedure could net the best results. That first pass with the PC should get the acrylic protection that EX has into any micro-fine scratches extremely well, and allow for a very good protected surface. Then the buffing with the MF should make sure its an even flat coat. Then the second coat would allow the gloss to increase some.

Any thoughts aobut the procedure, perhaps I am making some newbee mistakes?

Only two small changes I would make...after applying with pc and waiting...remove by hand

and no need for QD+ as of yet...give it a few days and then use it.

everything else sounds pretty good...also do all the edges by hand with the pvc applicator and then do the rest with the pc...

The EX goes on so easily and covers very well by hand. It is also a breeze to remove. Why would you need a PC since it has no cleaning properties to it?

Dan try it any way you like...detailing is not a science..evryone gets different results with different procedures...

try it out and let us know...maybe try it half by hand and half by pc and let us know if I you see a difference.

Land of Aloha...99% of products that contains wax, contain PD's. if used by machine they will do a little cleaning...EX was not designed for that use but a slight bit of cleaning will be achieved.

and yes it's sooo easy by hand ....you really don't need the pc unless you are a full time detailer looking to save time.

I have had to put EX on via PC because it does save time. I can get a nice thin coat on without a problem.

Maybe one time I will do first coat via PC and then 1 coat by hand jsut to look at it Might do that with my truck.

I'm with you Aloha brother. IMO, EX and Platinum UPP are made to apply by hand. Personally, I think it takes me longer to apply either of those two products with a PC than it does by hand.

Using the damp PVC applicator or even a slightly damp yellow foam applicator I can get super thin coats of eeither EX or UPP on in practically no time at all.

For me, EX and UPP are hand applications.
